MTD fees vary with the work included. Published offers checked on 21 October 2026 included Taxfix plans at £4.99 a month for self-service software and £39.99 for full support, both including VAT. Those are one provider’s advertised offers, not a market average or a TaxSimba quote. Compare bookkeeping, quarterly updates, the annual return and any catch-up fees.
Start with the service, then compare the price
A £5 software subscription and a £40 managed service are not two prices for the same job. One may leave you to keep the books and file; the other may include that work. The useful question is: what will I still have to do after paying?
Published MTD price examples
These examples were checked on 21 October 2026. They are advertised offers from one provider, not a survey of UK fees. Taxfix listed self-service at £4.99 a month, assistance at £24.99 and full support at £39.99, including VAT. Its page distinguished client bookkeeping from accountant-managed work and advertised introductory free months. Read the current plans and conditions before using those figures to compare a quote.
Offers change. Check eligibility, the period covered, cancellation terms and what happens after an introductory offer. For a recurring quote, multiply the price by the number of payments, then add setup and agreed catch-up work. Do not compare one provider’s introductory period with another’s full-year total.
Five jobs your quote should name
- Software and the income sources it supports.
- Recording and reconciling transactions, including cash and platform fees.
- Checking and sending each required quarterly update.
- Preparing the annual return for the same tax year.
- Dealing with earlier records, corrections and questions outside the package.
For example, a bookkeeper may maintain your records while an accountant files the return. That can work well, but confirm who joins up the information and whether both fees are in your budget.
What about TaxSimba’s price?
Use the current TaxSimba MTD packages for the actual offer. Describe each trade or property source and the updates already sent. Ask for any earlier-period work to be priced before it starts. This guide does not substitute a competitor’s price for a TaxSimba quote.
Your service fee is separate from your tax
Paying an accountant each month does not pay your Income Tax bill. Keep service invoices separate from payments to HMRC. If you are unsure whether MTD applies, check qualifying income first so you do not buy the wrong service.
Use the full-cost tool below to compare your own quotes. Mark unknown charges as unresolved rather than assuming they are zero, and confirm the work covered before choosing.
Compare a monthly quote with an annual quote
Illustrative example.
Imagine two quotes covering the same twelve months, income sources and work. Quote A is £30 a month plus £180 for earlier-period work: £360 + £180 = £540. Quote B is £420 including that same earlier-period work. Assume both figures include any applicable VAT and no other charges. These are invented comparison figures, not TaxSimba prices.
The headline monthly price is not the total cost. Before choosing, ask whether earlier-period work is actually needed and whether each quote covers the same service period. A different scope makes the comparison invalid.
| Check | Practical action |
|---|---|
| Monthly price | Multiply by the number of payments covering the agreed period. |
| Earlier-period work | Ask which periods, records and corrections the extra fee covers. |
| Included filings | Match each business, update and annual return on both quotes. |
Is the lowest monthly fee the cheapest overall?
Only a comparison of the complete agreed work and charges can answer that. Record one-off fees and any applicable VAT alongside recurring payments.
What should a written quote identify?
The tax year, income sources, record-keeping responsibilities, included filings, payment schedule and triggers for extra work.
